Home is where the heart is

Last weekend was busy - very busy. It was the Hamilton 400 here and we didn't want to miss a second, as well as that I was in an email conversation with someone in Vancouver. I was organising an apartment for us.

I had been starting to stress about not being able to find somewhere to stay and with the winter Olympics happening and Vancouver next year it was only going to get harder and more expensive - that's what everyone was telling me. I sent a company that assists with relocation an email asking if they had had any luck find us a place and within 48 hours I had an email with an apartment. Another 72 hours later I was sending a deposit to secure it. We're just waiting on confirmation and some "paper" work now.

So we've got a nice one bedroom apartment on the 7th floor and has "a wonderful north and east facing view" and a balcony we can sit on to enjoy it. Rach can walk to work and we can go nice walks to False Creek, Granville Island and Kits beach - because I love long walks on the beach. The rent is a little more than I'd like for a one bedroom place but it is furnished and includes high speed WIFI internet, land phone line, digital TV with a deluxe package of TV stations, water and electricity. It's also a little smaller than I'd like but at this stage we're only committed to three months there so we'll see how it goes - it may turn out to be perfect in which case we can take a 1 year lease.

I guess we'll see how it looks when we get there. At this stage its just a huge relief to know we've got somewhere to go when we get there.

Am I a bum now?

I did it, its final now.  I've handed in my notice at work.  This means that we're definitely going now.

I've never handed notice in before.  So far I've either transferred, been made redundant or just told the boss - who was also the owner.  I take it from the reactions I got that what I wrote was good - but then, if it wasn't, what are they going to do :-)?

Its starting to feel like I really have a handle on things, except money of course.  Only  a few things left to be done around the home, other than the things that can only be done last thing.  Work is done.  Last Friday we sent of the paperwork for our work permits and Rach is going to send in the last of the paperwork tomorrow.  Nothing left to do now but wait and save :-)

No doubt I'll be freaking out about it all again next week but for now I'm excited.

61 Days to go!

We're so going!

It was a big exciting and stressful week last week. Rach had a phone interview way back on BLACK FRIDAY (oooooo) and she was told that we'd hear back about the position by the end of the month... meaning last week. And we did... She got the job.

So suddenly this is all a whole lot more real. Having Plane tickets booked and paid for just meant that we were definitely going for a holiday... now we have to stay.

So now we can stop stressing about Rach getting a job and start stressing more about finding me a job, money, finding and apartment, money for an apartment, getting a work permit, money for a work permit, packing up everything we own and finding enough money. This would all be a lot easier if someone over there would employ me or we could win Lotto. Either will help but I'm hoping for the latter.

Apart from all the stress I am starting to get excited now!
